Ann Wyeth McCoy Collection
Content Description
The collection is comprised of materials from the estate of Ann Wyeth McCoy (1915-2005), daughter of artist N. C. Wyeth and his wife Carolyn, spanning years largely between 1920 to 2005. It includes correspondence from Ann McCoy’s elder sister Henriette Wyeth Hurd, and from her husband artist John McCoy, letters from her parents, N. C. and Carolyn Wyeth, siblings Carolyn, Nathaniel, and Andrew, extended family members Peter Hurd, and Stimson Wyeth, and her children Denys, Anna B. and Robin McCoy. There are several boxes of photographs, scrapbooks, news clippings, magazine articles, tearsheets, exhibition leaflets and catalogues, and other printed materials that record the activities of the Wyeth, Hurd, and McCoy families. The collection documents John McCoy’s artistic career with business correspondence on commissions and his teaching at the Pennsylvania Academy, photographic documentation of McCoy’s paintings, and exhibition history. Materials also document Ann McCoy’s paintings in watercolor and exhibitions of works, and her life-long interest in collecting antique dolls, many of which were regularly featured in the museum’s holiday displays from the 1970s to early 2000s. In addition, the collection contains original musical compositions by Ann Wyeth McCoy including her most notable work, “Christmas Fantasy,” performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra as conducted by Leopold Stokowski in 1935. Compositions include finished and unfinished works written between 1930 and 2005, with titles that commemorate Wyeth family events or were inspired by the paintings of N. C. Wyeth and her brother Andrew.
