“Howard Pyle” book - Early drafts – Chapters 13, 14, 15
Scope and Contents
The materials in the Henry C. Pitz Collection are comprised of research notes and drafts for his publications The Brandywine Tradition (1969) and Howard Pyle (1975). The manuscripts are hand and type-written and include carbon-copy drafts. The drafts for Howard Pyle are more complete than the drafts for The Brandywine Tradition, the bulk of which are in the Thornton Oakley Collection at The Free Library of Philadelphia. The collection also contains magazine tear-sheets and reproductions of works by Howard Pyle and his students that Pitz planned for use in his publications.
Other materials include photocopies of Edwin Swedenborg’s philosophy; pages from Gordon Craig, a biography of the famed English theatrical designer by his son Edward Craig; correspondence with the Wyeth family and several Pyle students; a published interview with Howard Pyle; booklets and catalogs on Pyle; and newspaper clippings of articles advertising the publication, Howard Pyle.
